Montinola Trivia
The original Montinola, Juan Montinola, was the 13th Governor of Antique during the 1786-1787 term. During those days in Antique, governors usually had a varied term span from a short one year to several years.  The 12th Governor before Juan Montinola was Juan Salgado (1783-1785) and after him, the 14th Governor was Pedro Vargas y Hombrona, his term spanning from 1788 to 1792.

Engineer: Lydia G. Tansinsin (see Pedigree)

Lydia G. Tansinsin gained recognition by giving science and technology a central place in the Philippine educative system. She introduced the holistic and multi-disciplinary approach and the concept of institution building in research and development to the Philippine Science Community.

In 1980, she strengthened the coordinative function of DOST with the inclusion of the Science and Technology Chapter in the Philppine National Development Plan. She spearheaded and implemented various projects with foreign funding and formulated policies and guidelines for different programs such as "Balik Scientist Program." She was also involved in the different ASEAN non-conventional energy projects, Magna Carta for Scientists and Technologist (RA 8435), geothermal utilization for electric power generation and solar and wind mapping of the Philppines, among others.

She is a Chartered of PTC and Organizing Chair of the AFEO, affiliated to the ASEAN as NGO and an initial founding fellow and current council member of the AAET of WFEO.

Engr. Tansinsin is also many firsts: she is the first Filipino to be confered an Honorary Engineer as ASEAN Engineer, the first woman Chairman of the Board of Examiners for the Licensure Examination for Chemical Engineers, PRC, and the first woman president of PICIIE, PHILAAS and SPAC. She is a delegate to various international meetings and has written over 40 published and unpublished papers.

With a great heart to share her gifts and knowledge with others, she is currently a UST Professional Lecturer and provides educational assistance to a seminarian and indigent students.

ImageRealizing the need to stimulate and unite the members of young professionals to work towards industrialization, the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers was organized in 1939. It's formation was spearheaded by a cohesive group of chemical engineers and chemists who were responding then to the challenges of industrializing the Philippines. Engr. Jose C. Espinosa, one of the early graduates of the chimical engineering from Massachusettes Institute of Technology became the first president and Engr. Lydia G. Tansinsin, the 12th president in 1977 to 1980.

Through the years, PIChE continues to move on living up to its mission and vision, attending to the professional needs of its members, and the chimical engineering curriculum.

To date, there are 30 chapters recognized under the big PIChE umbrella.
